So what of the film year 2011?  It was a very good, though not great, film year. 

Much of the greatness came from overseas as well as the independent film market, as it almost always does. 

In 2011 Hollywood further cemented its status as an RSS factory: Remakes, Sequels and Superheroes.

Seven of the ten films on my list were released before September in the U.S. and Canada, and all but one was independently distributed (non big studio distribution, not including "mini-major" studio arms.)
