James Ivory and Jordan Peele were the major winners at tonight's Writers Guild Awards, in ceremonies that took place in New York City and Beverly Hills.  Both Mr. Ivory and Mr. Peele were first-time winners of WGA Awards (for "Call Me By Your Name" and "Get Out" respectively.)

Both screenplay writers are now shoo-ins for Oscars in their categories next month.  Neither has won an Oscar.  Mr. Ivory has been nominated for an Oscar three previous times.

Many other WGA awards were presented tonight -- and within the next hour or so the full list of winners will be linked to here.

But this Sunday night undoubtedly was a big night for Mr. Ivory and Mr. Peele, the latter of whom has additional momentum coming off his Directors Guild Of America Awards win for first-time feature directing earlier this month.  That "Get Out" is still on many peoples' minds 50 weeks after its initial theatrical release may help the film in three weeks' time, when "Get Out" will be more than a year old.

The 90th Academy Awards are at grave risk at becoming predictable.  The Oscars take place on Sunday, March 4 in Los Angeles.
