It's bigger than big.

"Black Panther", which has been on the film radar for a year now, is only three weeks away from coming to theaters.  Ryan Coogler's Marvel superhero drama is reportedly tracked for a $150 million-plus opening weekend in the U.S. and Canada when it officially bows on February 16.

The eagerly-awaited film actually opens on what has become the customary Thursday night platform.

The buzz surrounding Mr. Cooger's film is exponential. The expectations are such that millions of dollars in pre-sale tickets have already been sold.  Numerous actors and filmmakers who have already seen "Black Panther" have described the reactions to the film after it finished as responses of profound emotion, applause and wide-eyed wonder.  Forest Whitaker has spoken of people being in tears.

If none of this whets the appetite for a film nothing will.

"Black Panther" stars Chadwick Boseman in the title role, with numerous actors in the cast including Lupita N'yongo, Angela Bassett and Michael B. Jordan.

All the anticipation for the film feels feverish and judging from Mr. Whitaker's comments, well-merited.

And "A Wrinkle In Time", Ava DuVernay's latest film, is on the way on March 9.  It too has the same kind of potential to be a massive success with audiences.

Both films (and I have seen neither yet) from their trailers suggest something broader, deeper and original.

Audiences, get your popcorn ready.
